What Are The Differences Between Soma and It’s Generic Alternative Carisoprodol?

In today’s economy with the rising cost of health care and medications many individuals choose to turn to generic drugs over their name brand variations but the question remains is this really a safe option? This is a question asked by almost everyone that considers using the generic alternative to a brand name drug such as Soma.

Generic drugs are generally considered safe alternatives to the brand name drugs because they go through basically the same process to be approved by the food and drug administration or FDA. In order for a medication to be branded as a true generic it has to meet certain guidelines. Some of those guidelines include the following:

1. The drug in question must have the same active ingredients as the brand name drug
2. The dosage must be in the same amounts
3. The drug must be taken in the same general way which is to say the prescribing information should be the same such as how much is taken and how often.
4. The generic drug should be just as effective as the branded drug

Basically this means that the generic drug should have no differences with the branded drug with the exception of the name that is used to market it. Generic drugs and branded drugs should have the same dosage, strength and capabilities and either one should be able to perform the same job.

With this being said it is safe to say that Soma in its generic form of carisoprodol should have no differences between each other. One is no different from the other and both are just as effective as the other.

With medications being so costly offering generic drugs at a discounted price is just the pharmaceutical company’s way of delivering the same drug at a lower price. This is especially beneficial to individuals who may not be able to obtain this medication otherwise because of the cost.
