Soma is a muscle relaxant that blocks the sensation of pain between the brain and the nervous system. This medication is often used for the treatment of muscle injuries and is most often used in combination with other treatments such as rest, physical therapy and anti inflammatory medications. Soma is also used to treat other musculoskeletal conditions that may be extremely painful as well as other issues as determined by your health care provider.
Soma is considered to be habit forming and individuals may become addicted when taking this medication for extended periods of time. For this reason Soma is usually not prescribed for individuals with pain that lasts for a long time or to individuals with a history of drug abuse or dependence. Only the person for which this medication should use Soma as there may be unknown side effects or allergic reactions. It is possible to have withdrawal symptoms after discontinuing the use of Soma particularly if you have been using it for an extended period of time. In some cases it may be necessary to wean yourself slowly from the use of this medication which means lowering the amount gradually before stopping completely.
Soma should not be used if you are allergic to carisoprodol or meprobamate or any of the other ingredients used in the production of this medication. You should also inform your health care professional of any other drug allergies you may have.
You should also notify your doctor if you have other health conditions such as kidney or liver disease, epilepsy or other seizure disorders as the dosage may need to be altered in order for you to safely use this medication.
Soma should always be taken exactly as it was prescribed to you and never in larger amounts or more frequently than recommended. This may result in overdose. If you suspect you have accidentally overdosed or begin to feel any unusual symptoms such as dizziness, confusion or loss of consciousness you should seek immediate medical attention.
